Target Tells A Blogger To Go Away

An interesting article from the New York Times; here’s an excerpt:

“That was the message the cheap-chic retailer seemed to convey in an abrupt e-mail message to ShapingYouth.org, a blog about the impact of marketing on children. Early this month, the blog’s founder, Amy Jussel, called Target, complaining about a new advertising campaign that depicted a woman splayed across a big target pattern — the retailer’s emblem — with the bull’s-eye at her crotch.

Target offered an e-mail response:

“Unfortunately we are unable to respond to your inquiry because Target does not participate with nontraditional media outlets,” a public relations person wrote to ShapingYouth.

“This practice,” the public relations person added, “is in place to allow us to focus on publications that reach our core guest,” as Target refers to its shoppers.”

I shop at Target, but with this kind of response to customers and also to bloggers like me, I think I’ll start shopping elsewhere!!!

A Philosophical Menswear Fall 2008 Season?

When did fashion become philosophical? According to Mari Davis, Editor-in-Chief of FashionWindows, the recently concluded menswear seasons in Milan and Paris took a philosophical turn.

Here’s an excerpt from this great post:

“With the conclusion of both Milan and Paris menswear seasons, there is a dichotomy on the vision of what men should wear next fall. Milan-based houses want men to look sharp, taking a cue from the grammar of gentleman dressing, while Paris-based designers want men to be independent in the way they dress, taking inspiration from the youth’s rebellious nature.”
